James A. "Hoss" Boyd, LtCol, USAF (Retired)

President and CEO
TeraVolt Energy

Mr. Boyd, originally from pre-Walmart Bentonville, Arkansas, has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and a Master of Science Degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas. He also has over 50 years of leadership experience through the military and in business. Hoss served 12 years of Active Duty in the Air Force from 1973 to 1985 in logistics and as a Titan II ICBM Launch Officer. From 1985 to 1990, he was a Real Estate Broker Associate and Real Estate Securities Broker-Dealer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During that time, he worked directly on high profile projects such as Class "A" office buildings, high-rise medical office buildings, business parks, commercial and industrial land syndications, and "AAA" rated RV parks.

After being Honorably Discharged from Active Military Service in 1985, he transferred to the Active Air Force Reserves, where he served another 18 years in Logistics and in Contract Administration. These duties took him to many major Defense Contractor facilities that included General Dynamics (now Lockheed Ft Worth Tx), Rockwell (Anaheim Ca), Hughes Aerospace (El Segundo Ca), Boeing (Seattle Wa), Martin Marietta (now Lockheed-Martin Denver Co), Stewart and Stevenson (Sealy Tx), Bell Helicopter (Dallas Tx), Westinghouse (Baltimore Md), and Pratt and Whitney (East Hartford Ct).

In 1990, Mr. Boyd secured a civilian position with the Air Force in a nuclear weapons safety and security activity. This Top Secret position allowed him to work directly with the US Department of Energy, Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the governments of Germany, Italy, and Great Britain. He was later promoted into high level Air Force positions including that of Air Force Logistics Civilian Career Program Manager at Randolph AFB Tx, and Strategic Planning Manager for the 311th Human Systems Wing at Brooks AFB Tx.

From 1999 - 2003 (Pre and Post 911), Hoss served a three-year Active Duty tour at Headquarters Air Education and Training Command (AETC), Randolph AFB Tx, where he worked a special project that involved oversight of a RAND Corporation study. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force in 2003, with 30 years of combined Active and Reserve Experience. Hoss is a Viet Nam Era and a Post 911 Era Veteran.

After retiring, Hoss founded a commercial electrical contracting company in New Braunfels, Texas (the company was founded and incorporated with the State of Texas in 2002 prior to his retirement). The firm was actively building commercial electrical projects until 2008, when it moved into solar (PV/Photovoltaic) installations. Over the years, the company has changed names and business models. From solar installations, TeraVolt Energy changed to a solar and energy storage general contractor. Today the company exclusively manufactures portable and transportable energy systems.

With decades in the solar and energy storage industries, Hoss has become a recognized expert in those areas of expertise. He is an accomplished speaker and author with several published books to his credit, including a manual for those who want to go Off-The-Grid (The Aggie 'n Arkie OTG Energy Guide, by Hoss Boyd and Kerena Reese). He is a long-time columnist for Mother Earth News Magazine as an Off-The-Grid expert, and has also written a number of full-length articles for the publication.
